Sadly, on Friday, August 29, 2025, Gloria L. DeSouza of Carmel, NY passed away at the age of 96. Gloria was born on May 2, 1929 in Guyana to Richard & Virginia (D'Abrew) Goveia. Gloria married Albert DeSouza on September 6 1952 at St. Philip Neri Church in the Bronx, NY. They were blessed with three wonderful children and lived in Inwood, NY for 45 years until moving to Carmel.
Gloria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She worked at the NYC Board of Education as a school cafeteria aide. Gloria had many interests and some of favorite pastimes included crocheting & knitting, doing word puzzles. She was an avid reader and loved singing a tune here and there.
Gloria is predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert, who passed away on July 2, 2016. She is survived by her much loved children, Donna Mann, Gary DeSouza (Patricia) and Peter DeSouza, her treasured grandchildren, Christopher Mann and Jason Mann (Rachel) along with her cherished great granddaughters, Elaine, Nora and Cecilia. She is predeceased by her sisters Rita Roche and Lydia DaSilva.
Gloria will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and loved her. They will also miss her singing!
A Mass of Christian burial to honor and celebrate Gloria's life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025 at St. James the Apostle Church, 14 Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, NY.
Following the Mass, Gloria will be escorted to her final resting place alongside her beloved husband, Albert, at Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel, NY.
