Gloria Gottschalk Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 20 to Mar. 2, 2023.
Gloria Jean Gottschalk, 76, of Stuart, Florida, passed away on February 8, 2023, at Treasure Coast Hospice, Stuart, FL, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Gloria was born on October 15, 1946, to Walter and Theobelle Genis in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. She married Jon Robert Gottschalk on March 14, 1970, at the First Congregational Church in Wisconsin Rapids and together they raised three children; Brian, Tara, and Kristin.

The cranberry industry was a major part of her life. She and Jon purchased a cranberry marsh in Phillips, Wisconsin in 1980 and worked tirelessly to turn Cranberry Lake Corporation into a successful business. Jon and Gloria sold Cranberry Lake Corp. in 2010 and subsequently retired to a summer home in Bayfield, WI and their forever home in Stuart, FL.

Jon and Gloria were blessed with four grandchildren: Amanda, Adam, Katlynn, and Haley. Her grandchildren were the light of her life; she was so proud of each of them and always said she had the most beautiful (and handsome) grandchildren

Gloria loved flowers and had a natural knack for creating beautiful arrangements. Gloria spent time outside any chance she could; going for walks, boat rides, sitting outside listening to the waves of Lake Superior at their Bayfield, WI home, or watching boats go by and dolphins play at their Stuart, FL home on the St. Lucie River.

She loved to listen to music and stroll through art shows and boutiques looking for unique home d?cor. She also enjoyed paper cutting, calligraphy, and had the most beautiful cursive handwriting, making it impossible for her children to forge her signature on school notes.

Gloria enjoyed traveling with her family for Ocean Spray Cranberry meetings, taking girls trips with her close-knit group of high school friends, and spending time with her sisters. She also enjoyed taking each grandchild on a special trip following their high school graduation.

Gloria had a passion for clothing and jewelry. Not a day went by that she wasn't wearing a beautifully coordinated outfit, right down to jewelry and shoes to match. She took great care of herself; had beautiful skin, and exercised regularly whether it was Jazzercise, walking, biking, or golf.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Jon, children Brian Gottschalk, Tara (Dale) Drachenberg, and Kristin DeGroot (Mike Olsen). Grandchildren Amanda Gottschalk, Adam Gottschalk, Katlynn Stincic (Shane Warder), and Haley DeGroot (Montana Klahn), and sisters Diane (Greg) Steele, Judy Arneson, Carol (John) Daebler), and Brother-in-Law; Guy (Kathy) Gottschalk.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; Walter and Theobelle Genis, In-laws Robert and Helen Gottschalk, sister Janet Henke, Brothers-in-Law Everett Henke, David Arneson, and James Maleski.

A funeral service was held at Palm City Presbyterian Church, 2700 SW Martin Hwy., Palm City, FL on Saturday, February 11. A memorial service in Wisconsin will be held this summer, date to be determined. At her request, Gloria's ashes will be spread over Gottschalk Cranberry in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Palm City Presbyterian Church, 2700 SW Martin Hwy., Palm City, FL 34990, or Treasure Coast Hospice, Mayes Center, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.
