Gloria Raimondi Lauber, 87, died peacefully at Calvary Hospital on January 15, 2025. She was born to Margherita and Francesco Raimondi in the Bronx in 1937. Gloria is predeceased by her daughter, Anne Clare, her brothers, Philip and Frank, as well as her dear cousin, Domenica (Della) who she regarded as a sister. She is survived by her children Christopher Lauber (Helen), Margrethe Lauber (Susan) and Maura Del Bene (Donato) and her treasured grandchildren Paul Lauber (Tina), Andrew Del Bene (Nhien), Owen Lauber (Kate) and Mia Del Bene (Matthew) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gloria's professional life was important to her – starting at Barnard College then Bellevue School of Nursing (Class of 1959) and Roosevelt Hospital (certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) program).
As a nurse anesthetist, she worked at Yonkers General Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and transitioned in her retirement to school nurse in the Yonkers Public School system until 2017. In the interim years, she joined the Army Reserves serving as an officer on a MASH unit with training at Walter Reed Hospital. Regardless of the situation, Gloria was at home caring for those in need.
Life for Gloria became exciting after becoming a grandmother and she became "Nonna". Her devotion was palpable, and she never missed an opportunity to have sleep over's at her home, travel to the Bronx Zoo, Mystic Seaport and other exciting excursions. Her energy boundless and love endless.
She was an avid gardener growing corn and asparagus in flower beds, loved food and taught her grandchildren how to cook pasta with ricotta (an all-time favorite), leaned into adventure by traveling the world but also by camping with her family and friends, loved knitting and creating with stained glass, appreciated new technologies making many friends at the Apple Genius Bar, believed in having friends of all ages to keep her social circle vibrant, understood the power of wearing one's colors (hers being autumn) and was passionate about reading (her favorite author is Willa Cather).
Her smile, laughter and generosity will long be remembered by those who know her.
A special thank you to Gloria's caregivers Gabby, Tashina and Nicole for their devotion and loving care for the past 7 years and for the guidance and caring attention of the Honora Care Management and Consulting team of Susan and Adrienne.
Memorial visitation will be held Thursday January 16, 2025 from 4-7 PM at the Westchester Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Main St. Eastchester, NY.
Please honor her memory and in lieu of flowers kindly donate to Calvary Hospital

January 15, 2025

We saw so many films together; nearly every October, we drove upstate to marvel at the foliage change; over nearly three decades, we never once argued.

Gloria was the first person I met when I moved to Bronxville. After a few minutes of chatting outside her garage (during which she corrected me: "We pay Yonkers taxes, so we don't actually live in Bronxville" ...), she said, "I hope we'll be friends." And we were the best of friends. We could (and did) talk about everything.

I loved her love of family; her deep pride in her Italian heritage; her endless curiosity about and genuine interest in people. I will miss her terribly and forever.
