GLORIA ESTHER TORRES
July 31, 1940- May 12, 2025
Gloria, 84, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, while surrounded by her loved ones until her last breath. Born on July 31, 1940, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Gloria lived a life full of strength, love, laughter, and style.
The daughter of Leocadia Rodriguez and Faustino Rosario, Gloria moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she graduated high school and became a candy striper in a hospital aspiring to become a nurse or nurse assistant. Although she quickly discovered that nursing wasn't for her- after fainting at the sight of blood- she discovered her passion for fashion. That passion led her to the Silk City, aka
Paterson, NJ, where she met the love of her life, her husband John Torres of 62 years.
She worked hard as a seamstress at the Mills, and in no time, she was running production for various fashion lines, commuting from Jefferson Township to Paterson- rain, sleet, or snow- every week day for 20 years. Rising at the crack of dawn and working in a factory did not stop this fashionista from dressing to the full nine. With heels, skirts, and sexy blouses, she was a sight of beauty to behold.
She was also tough as nails. You might call her RAM Tough! Yes, she had an attitude. Her day did not end when the whistle blew. She would come home, cook, clean and care for her children and husband. With little or no time to herself, she would go to bed and do it all again day after day. Her work ethic is one to be admired and respected. A trait that she would pass on to her children.
Gloria is a beloved mother and is survived by 3 children: Denny Joe Perez (deceased), Darlene Torres Anderson, and Marilyn Morgan. Son in law Mark Anderson and Mike Morgan. And Sister Rosa Maria Rosario. She is also survived by her adoring granddaughter, Deni Grace Morgan- the love of her life.
Selfless, loving, fiercely loyal, and deeply funny, Gloria was always available to anyone who needed her. Whether it was being a companion on a road trip to Florida with an infant and a U-Haul, or not buying that dress she was eyeballing to splurge on Christmas. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she lit up the room everywhere she went.
Gloria's home was a reflection of her-charming, elegant, and always filled with love. A home that welcomed everyone. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, infectious laughter, and her meticulous, savory cooking. Her arroz con salchicha was legendary, and she never passed up some good crabs or chocolate-covered strawberries.
She was a woman of many joys: gardening (the most beautiful orchids ever), shopping, cooking, dancing, and mani-pedis with her husband, John- an adorable memory they cherished together. Gloria loved watching baseball, the Yankees were her favorite. And everyone knew not to disturb her between 10 am and noon- with Let's Make a Deal at 10 (which she often boasted she won both showcases) and a date with Bob Barker at 11 for the Price is Right- this was her sacred time.
Gloria's legacy is one of resilience, beauty, humor, and boundless love. She gave more than she ever asked for and left an indelible mark on all who had the honor of knowing her.
