After 90 years of life, Gordon V. Christensen passed peacefully at home on May 11, 2023. In his last days, he was surrounded and cared for by his loving family.

Gordon was born in Goshen, Idaho, on February 16, 1933, to Rulon V. and Lois Monson Christensen. He was welcomed by his older brother Reed, and later joined by sister Deanna (Jolley). Gordon spent his youth learning the value of hard work on the family farm. He graduated from Firth High School in 1951. He started Ricks College that fall but was soon called back to the farm due to a family emergency.

Gordon married his forever sweetheart Doreen Louise Crofts, in the Idaho Falls Temple on February 26, 1953. This year they celebrated 70 years of marriage – a rare and amazing accomplishment, which stands as an example to all who know them. Over the years they were blessed with seven children

Due to the Korean conflict, Gordon was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954, where he served for two years. Following his military service, he continued his education at Brigham Young University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Audiology and a master’s degree in Speech Pathology. He forever remained a faithful Cougar fan and spent his life following all things BYU sports. Upon graduation, Gordon and Doreen returned to Idaho to pursue his career. In 1964, they moved to Ogden, where he worked for the Weber Basin Job Corps for 21 years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed driving a school bus for the Weber School District for many years.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Doreen; daughter, Mary Ann (David) Anderson; son, David V.; as well as 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant son, Gordon; twin infant sons, Gary and Larry; son, James Russell; daughter, Susan Lynn; grandson Trevor Terry; his brother and sister, parents, and parents-in-law. His family brought him his greatest joy.

Second only to his love of family, was Gordon’s love for service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Bishop of two wards, on various High Councils, and in many other callings. Among his special service opportunities were three missions, where he and Doreen blessed many lives; West Virginia Charleston, Illinois Chicago South, and a service mission at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. He served as an officiator in the Ogden Temple for many years. He continued to serve as a patron in the temple weekly, up until the recent day a medical emergency sent him to the hospital. He truly loved and served until the very end - which is exactly what he hoped for.

He leaves a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ, and countless lessons in never giving up, even under the most difficult of circumstances. He truly did “endure to the end” in every way.

A funeral service honoring this good, kind, gentle man will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley 3rd Ward Chapel, 5640 South 850 East, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Goshen Cemetery, Goshen, Idaho. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
