Grace Evelyn Matthews

Mrs. Grace Evelyn Matthews, 99, of Gainesville passed away Friday, December 13, 2024 at New Horizon's Limestone following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Darryl Womack will officiate. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Born on March 13, 1925 in Jackson County, GA, she was the daughter of the late George "Lum" and Mamie Lyles Murphy. She was a homemaker who loved caring for her family. Mrs. Matthews was a member of Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. Matthews; brothers, Otis Murphy, Herb Murphy, Russell Murphy; daughter, Patricia "Patsy" Abernathy; sons, Tony C. Matthews, Christopher Todd Matthews and grandson, Craig Pierce.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great-grandmother, she is survived by her son, Lloyd A. Matthews, Jr and Janet of Murrayville; daughter, Evelyn Strickland and Rev. Randy Strickland of Maysville; daughter, Peggy Pierce and Stanley of Gainesville; daughter in law, Cindy Matthews of Clarkesville; brother, Jake Murphy of Talmo; grandchildren, Christopher Strickland, Kelly Johnson, Brittani Conner, Michael Blake Matthews, Parker Matthews, Peyton DeLay; 11 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
