WATERFORD GraceAnne Gilbert, 80, of Van Schoonhoven Square passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Robert P. Gorham and Yolanda Medaglia Gorham. She graduated from CCHS in 1961 and went on to work in many capacities throughout her life. She had been employed at the former Heritage Building Co. as well as Cluett & Peabody Co. both in Troy. She then owned and operated her limousine service, Grace Carriage Limos. More recently, she enjoyed working at Fort William Henry and Molly Malone's in Lake George.
Grace was an energetic spirit who was always on the go. She volunteered at a soup kitchen in Saratoga and belonged to the Knit Wits craft group in Lake George. She enjoyed all pets, but especially horses and could often be found at the Saratoga Racecourse. She also loved holidays and family gatherings at which everyone looked forward to her delicious homemade baked goods.
Grace was the loving wife of Richard T. Gilbert who passed away in 2013; the beloved mother of John K. Burgess of Plattsburgh, Donald R. Burgess of Cape Cod, MA and Stephen J. Gilbert (Robin) of Glenville; the adoring grandmother of Ashley, Kayla and Michael Burgess and Finley and Cullen Gilbert. She is also survived by her 4 great grandchildren; the daughter she never had, Dawne Bednarek as well as a large extended family and her dear friends and staff at the Van Schoonhoven Square Apartments.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service Thursday, May 2nd at 1 p.m. in the Waterford Rural Cemetery (please use the Davis Avenue entrance to the cemetery).
Those wishing to remember Grace in a special way may make contributions to the Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 or to St. Mary of the Assumption Church Restoration Fund, 119 Broad St., Waterford, NY 12188
