Gregory Lyndon Kapp, known for his quiet strength, his generous heart, and his dedication to his family, died on October 28th, 2025 in Denver, Colorado surrounded and held by his wife and four kids.
Greg was born April 5, 1958 in Liberal, Kansas. At age seven, he moved with his family to Denver, but he went back to Kansas many a summer to help with the harvest on his grandparents' dry-land wheat farm. It was there, at age twelve, that Greg first learned to drive. He enjoyed chewing fresh wheat in the shade of the truck and talking with his grandpa.
As a teenager, Greg used to ride his motorcycle over the undeveloped hills of south Denver and he played basketball as a 6'5" center at Thomas Jefferson High School. In 1981 he earned a Bachelors of Science in Forest Management from Colorado State University and it was at CSU that Greg met the most important person of his life: his beloved wife of 45 years, Donna Jean Olsen.
One evening, Donna was waiting in her car watching the sideways lightning of a far-off thunderstorm. She noticed a long figure stretched out on the grass; Greg was watching too. They met later that night. After they were gone a mutual friend said, "I think Donna and Greg are going to get married." He was right. Greg and Donna wed nine months later on August 23, 1980 in Denver, Colorado. Donna says they always joked about how it must have been meant to be, "because of that lightning in the sky the night we met."
After one Summer fighting forest fires and a few years working in office furniture assembly, Greg joined Citizens Carpet Service. He started as a warehouseman and gradually assumed more responsibility, finishing his career of over forty years as Vice President of the company. Getting to work alongside his family members Dale, Gail, Janet, and Melody for four decades was one of Greg's greatest pleasures, as was taking excellent care of his customers. His loyal, patient leadership earned him lifelong friends all the way from Dalton, Georgia to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Greg and Donna welcomed four children into their family: Elisabeth (1984), Daryl (1985), Lydia (1990), and Joel (1995). Greg absolutely loved being a Dad. He was tender, attentive, and always willing to play no matter how tired he was. He loved watching his kids do things, loved watching their games and performances. He was so proud of how talented they all were and he gladly facilitated their different dreams by driving them everywhere: to practice, lessons, rehearsals, tournaments, even out-of-state colleges and new homes around the country. Greg wanted his kids to become all that they could be. He encouraged them, empowered them, and let them fly.
Greg was also a treasured Papa. His grandchildren Lily, Jaina, Kai, Adelina, Charlotte, Eleana, Daniella, and Oliver were pure delight to him. He loved flying kites with them along the Atlantic in Ormond Beach, FL, watching them dance and play violin, swimming with them, and biking, playing Happy Salmon and SORRY, reading books, doing puzzles, and letting them climb all over him like a jungle gym. Near or far, he loved watching them grow up.
In January of 2024, Greg was diagnosed with leukemia. He fought valiantly for two years, always saying "I have so much to live for." His greatest joy was providing for his family. His happiest moments were those spent together. He loved card games around the table, kayaking, pickleball, bird watching, golfing, singing, grilling culinary masterpieces, watching the Broncos and the Nuggets and the Rockies (even when they weren't playing very well), being with his kids and his grandkids, and above everything and everyone, Greg loved Donna. "She's the most awesome lady I know."
Greg is survived by his wife, Donna (Denver, CO) ; daughter Elisabeth and her husband Lewis (Buda, TX) son Daryl and his wife Kirsten (Indianapolis, IN) ; daughter Lydia and her husband Vito (Cranston, RI) son Joel and his wife Jenna (Denver, CO) ; grandchildren Lily, Jaina, Kai, Adelina, Charlotte, Eleana, Daniella, Oliver father Dale (Aurora, CO); and sister Melody (Aurora, CO).
Greg was preceded in death by his mother Gail (Aurora, CO).
We invite everyone who loved Greg to celebrate his life with us on November 25th at 2pm in Quebec Place at Fairmount Cemetery (430 S. Quebec St. Denver, CO 80247).
