Dennis E. Valentine passed away on November 4, 2025, surrounded by the family he cherished. A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and trusted friend, Dennis lived a life guided by loyalty, service, and compassion.
Born in Chicago on August 11, 1942, to Harold and Anne (Whalen) Valentine, Dennis graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1965. The very next day, he married the love of his life, Cynthia (Estes) Valentine, beginning a partnership of more than six decades filled with adventure, laughter, and unwavering mutual support. Dennis and Cindy then moved to Washington D.C., where Dennis earned a Master's in Economics from Georgetown University. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and then attended law school at the University of Denver, where he was a member of the Law Review and the Order of St. Ives. He graduate cum laude from law school in 1973.
Dennis dedicated his professional life to advocating for others. As a passionate labor lawyer, he spent many years protecting America's workers and their unions-representing teachers, steel workers, firefighters, and police officers-fighting for fairness and dignity in workplaces across the country. Later in his career, he turned his skill and conviction toward strengthening laws that safeguard the elderly as a Legislative Advocate for AARP, to ensure they received the respect and protection they deserved. His work made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless people, and his legacy of service extends far beyond his family and friends.
Another passion for Dennis was horses. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s he was active with the Colorado Arabian Horse Club, serving as both its President and Region 8 Director, roles in which he poured his heart and expertise into advancing the breed and supporting the community that shared his passion. Even after retiring from his legal career, Dennis continued to offer counsel and guidance to these organizations, ensuring their continued success and stability.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy; his three daughters and their husbands-Karole Valentine and Jay Miller, Anna (Valentine) and Jeff ("Hoj") Tjornehoj, and Tracy Valentine and Timothy Garvey-and his grandchildren, Avery Tjornehoj, Carter Tjornehoj (and his wife Jessica Thill), and Kayla Valentine, who were a constant source of pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his sister, Maureen (Valentine) Cooluris, and his brother, Patrick Valentine.
A lifelong supporter of the University of Colorado, Dennis rarely missed a chance to cheer on the CU Buffaloes. As a long-time season ticket holder for both football and basketball, he found joy in the camaraderie, community, and tradition of game days.
Those who knew Dennis will remember his thoughtful nature, his steadfast integrity, his quiet humor, and the way he showed love through presence. He believed in putting others first and doing what was right, even when it was not easy.
A celebration of his life will be held Monday, November 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Fairmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Dennis by extending kindness to someone in need or by supporting a cause that reflects the values he lived by.
