Gregory Palubicki, an 82-year-old longtime resident of Libertyville, passed away on August 2, 2025. He was born to George and Florence Palubicki and raised in Chicago's Bucktown and Harwood Heights neighborhoods.

For more than 60 years, Greg dedicated himself to his work as a CPA. For him, it wasn't just about the numbers; it was about the strong relationships he built with his clients, and these friendships were so meaningful that he never fully retired.

A lifelong Cubs fan and an avid reader, Greg was a perpetual student. He regularly attended classes at the College of Lake County and seminars at the library. He was also a man who couldn't sit still, and he generously gave his time to various causes. He volunteered for overnight shifts for PADS, served for years to support the Cove Alliance's school in Uganda, delivered food for the St. Mary of Vernon food pantry, and served on the board of Libertyville's Lake Minear.

Greg was a wonderful role model for his daughters, instilling in them a strong work ethic, a sense of independence, and the importance of thinking for themselves. His consistent and secure presence brought laughter into every room he entered, and he had a natural ability to entertain those around him. He and his wife cherished their road trips across the country and travels abroad.

Greg brought so much love and laughter into this world and will be dearly missed.

Greg is survived by his wife of 50 years Mary Ellen; his daughters Liza (Marni Levinson), Maggie (Doug) Karcavich, and Annie; his grandchildren Drew and Kate; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Judy (the late Jon) Graf.

Visitation for Greg will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday Aug 6th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday Aug 7th at St. Mary of Vernon Catholic Church, 236 US Hwy 45, Indian Creek, IL 60061. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Doctors Without Borders at www.doctorswithoutborders.org/. Funeral info (847) 362-2626.

Mary Ellen, I just read this afternoon in the SMV bulletin that Greg had passed away. I am so sorry to hear that. Greg obviously lived life to the fullest giving his all to family, friends, and strangers alike. He lived the life of a Christian and now will be rewarded with eternal life. Please know that you, your daughters, and family are in my thoughts and prayers.
