Jodi Lynn Dolbeare Shakin, 56, of Libertyville, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025. A dedicated Clinical Psychologist and passionate child advocate, Jodi devoted her life to strengthening the lives of underprivileged children in the Chicagoland area.

Jodi was raised in Niles and was a proud graduate of Marquette University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree. She went on to earn her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from National Louis University. She channeled her education and innate ability to connect with young people into her work, notably at the Chicago Child Advocacy Center, and by volunteering her time to children within the Illinois DCFS system. Jodi was known for her strength as an advocate, her unique ability to communicate with children, and her love of incorporating art therapy into their treatment.

Outside of her impactful professional life, Jodi possessed a beautiful creative spirit. She loved writing poetry, often taking retreats with fellow poets who frequently encouraged her to publish her work. She cherished the beauty of the outdoors, capturing breathtaking sunset photos "up North" and marveling at the Northern Lights. Many of her peaceful moments were spent taking her pontoon out on the lake in Northern Michigan. She was also a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan and loved decorating for the holidays, always bringing warmth and love to every season. Her beloved dog, Joy, was her constant companion and went on every journey by her side.

Jodi's most treasured role was that of a mother. She shared a special, unparalleled bond with her son, Elias, communicating with him in away no one else could. She is survived by her loving husband, Gary, with whom she shared a devoted 32-year partnership, spending only eight days apart throughout their time together. She is also survived by her sister, Kimberly(Brian), and many nieces and nephews.

Jodi was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Joan Dolbeare.

Jodi brought so much love into this world and will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and the countless children whose lives she touched.

Visitation for Jodi will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Friday Oct. 3rd at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville with a funeral service at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter, 2200 Riverwoods Rd, Deerfield, IL 60015 would be greatly appreciated. Funeral info (847) 362-2626.
