Avelina Tampus Obituary

Born and raised in the Philippines to Florencio and Eleuteria Medalla, Avelina was a woman whose life was defined by devotion, hard work, and deep family ties. In 1989, she immigrated to the United States with her husband, Dionisio, and their daughter, embarking on a new chapter.
A dedicated professional, Avelina worked as a Patient Care Technician at Victory Hospital, where her kind demeanor and warm spirit helped her forge lasting friendships. After retiring at the age of 80, her commitment shifted to a role she cherished even more: providing loving care for her great-grandchildren and playing a critical role in their formative years.
Avelina was known for her vibrant life outside of work as well. A talented cook, she expressed her love by sharing meals of homemade Filipino classics like Pancit and Sinigang with her family. She found joy and camaraderie in playing mahjong and taking regular casino trips with her friends. A lifelong, devoted Catholic, she attended Mass weekly, fostering a close relationship with God that became a guiding spiritual example for her entire family.
Avelina's bright smile and guiding light will be profoundly missed. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now with the Lord and the loved ones who have gone before her.
Avelina is survived by her children Liza (Gerry Guzman) Tampus-Guzman, Rafael Tampus, Noel (Joy) Tampus; her grandchildren Johannes, Jerianne, Judiane (Angel) Robles, Glecy (Scott) Orbeta, Geanne, Kezner, Ciara Tampus, Kaye Tampus, Ayessa Tampus, and Ansherina Tampus; her great-grandchildren Reese, Ava, Brody, Logan, Axel, and Kalina. She is preceded in death by her husband Dionisio Tampus (1994) and her daughter Ma. Katherina(Jeg Tuazon) Tampus (2025).
Visitation for Avelina will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 pm on Saturday Oct 4th, at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Interment Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. Funeral info (847) 362-2626.
