Gus Compton Jr., age 78, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on January 12, 2025, at his home. Gus was born to Gus Compton and Lavona Kemp on August 1, 1946 in Springfield, MO. He was raised in Springfield, MO and graduated from Central High School. Gus was united in marriage to Dorothy Compton. Gus and Dorothy shared 45 years of marriage. The couple were blessed with three children; Melissa, Shawna and Paul. Gus proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Gus was employed as a box taper and gluer with Smurfit – Stone for 46 years. When not working, he had many interests and pastimes including spending time with his grandchildren and playing pool. Gus will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the best Grandpa anyone could ever have!
Gus was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Compton, his two daughters, Shawna and Ashley, two brothers, George and Bill. He is survived by his two children; Melissa and Paul, his sister, Mary Lou, his 4 granddaughters, Miranda, Danille, Alishia and Sasha, 11 great-grandchildren; Gracie Webster, Timothy Webster, Penelopi Jones, Emily Hager, Sarah Hager, James Hager, Julia Hager, William Knoles, McKayla Roberts, Lacie Woods and Leighanna Woods.
A visitation for Gus will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2025 at Greenlawn Funeral Home South in Springfield, Missouri. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Burial will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
