Gus Metros

Gus Metros passed away on November 24, 2023 at the age of 86. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Beverly, his son Craig ( Kelly) and his daughter, Wendy (Gary) Meyer. He was the proud Papou of Ava and Jack. He is also survived by his sister Diane Bageris, his brother William "Bee" Metros and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Metros. Gus was born on September 3, 1937 in Dearborn, Michigan. He received an Associate's Degree from Henry Ford Community College where he met the love of his life, Beverly Miller. The two married on August 27, 1961 in Oklahoma City where Gus was stationed in the United States Army. Gus and Bev had two children and raised their family in Dearborn. Gus worked for 30 years at General Motors as a draftsman and later as an engineer in the company's Overseas Division. This position gave him the opportunity to see the world including Greece, Taiwan, Iran, Africa, and South America. He had a work ethic that was unmatched. At various stages of his career at GM, Gus also owned two car washes; a waterbed store; a popcorn wagon that he used for art fairs and festivals; a snow removal business; a lawn care service; he sold Christmas trees; he cut and sold firewood, and sometimes he worked at a catering company. He had countless jobs and yet always made it home for dinner at 5:30 pm every single evening. He was meticulous about his house, his cars and his lawn. He was an auto enthusiast, a boater, a Coca-Cola and antiques collector and could quite frankly fix anything around the house. Family was everything to him and he loved nothing more than to be seated at a big table with the Metros and Bageris families eating and telling stories. He loved being a dad and later in life he loved being a Papou. He became a front row fixture at every Bloomfield High School Theater Production and could not wait to see Ava and Jack perform. He was beyond proud of his children and grandchildren and he was extremely proud to be Greek. Gus was an absolute legend and loved by so many. We will miss him greatly. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 27 at AJ Desmond & Sons, 32515 Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak from 2pm to 8pm with a Trisagion Service at 7pm.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, November 28 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 760 W. Wattles Road in Troy. He will lie in state at 10am and the service will begin at 11am. A luncheon will be at the church immediately following the service at 12pm.
