Born in Brooklyn, NY, Gussie lived with her family in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and Maspeth, Queens before relocating to Homestead at Mansfield in 2005.
Gussie was a teacher St. Cecilia School located in Brooklyn NY from 1970-1975. At St. Cecila, Gussie oversaw the DISTAR Reading program, leaving a legacy of teaching students how to read.
Gussie was employed as a Tax Examiner for the Internal Revenue Service, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
Gussie was a proud parishioner of Holy Assumption Church in Roebling. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband Joseph and playing on the Wii Bowling League. But her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Gussie was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and cousin. She will be missed by her family and friends.
The daughter of the late Salvatore and Lea Catalano, she is predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph N Viola, she is survived by her sons, Salvatore Viola and (Selva Mirles), Thomas Viola and (Carol Lewis), her grandchildren, Gina Marie Viola, Salvatore J Viola Jr., Thomas Anthony and (Jennifer) Viola, her sister in law Angela Viola, nephew Frank and (Nancy) Viola and niece Graceann and (Joseph )Russo, and her very close cousins, Marie Gulotta, Nan Caradona, Nelly Scuderi, step grandchildren Christopher Welby, Michael Rivera and (Sylvia), Rivera, step grandchildren Gabriella and Ethan Rivera and her best friend Ann Long.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday June 12, 2024, at Holy Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 1290 Hornberger Avenue, Roebling. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening 5:00 ~ 7:00 pm with Wake Service at 7:00 pm and Wednesday morning from 8:45 ~ 9:45 am at the funeral home, burial will follow at Brig Gen William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown NJ.
