Dr. Green's professional life was equally as distinguished. He retired from the Muscatatuck State Hospital, having made a significant impact as a Hospital Administrator as Superintendent. His leadership was marked by compassion, dignity, and a relentless commitment to improving the lives of those around him. Hal's exemplary service did not go unnoticed as he was revered not only by his colleagues but also by the many lives he touched through his work. In retirement Dr. Green authored a book of fiction called "Murder in the Well House" – a murder mystery that takes place on his beloved IU campus. He was a member of the Westville Masonic Lodge #192 and enjoyed playing the piano and guitar, cooking, reading, doing the daily Wall Street Journal crossword puzzle, and was an avid IU sports fan and alumnus.
