Harold Eugene (Gene) Waldner, 88, of Camp Hill, passed away February 5, 2025, at his residence. He was born July 13, 1936, to the late Harold and Josephine (Romberger) Waldner.
Gene graduated from Bucknell University with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1958 where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He was a civil engineer for Modjeski and Masters for his entire career retiring as a Partner and Vice President. As a licensed professional engineer in multiple states, he led the design of many significant Hudson River and Mississippi River crossings including the Qunicy Bayview Bridge in Quincy, Illinois, the first cable stayed bridge of its kind in the United States. He also played a key role in the design of the award-winning Blue Water Bridge connecting Port Huron, Michigan and Point Edward, Canada. At the same time, he played an integral role in the design of another award-winning bridge, the Casco Bay Bridge in Portland, Maine which included innovative protection preventing oil spills and ship damage in the event of a collision. He was also a member of the Modjeski and Masters bowling team.
Gene was active in the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE) where he is a member of the PSPE President's Dedicated Service Award Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the American Society of Engineers (ASCE). Gene was a freemason and a Zembo Shriner as well as a member of the Elks Lodge. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for over a decade achieving a rank of Major. While serving, he was the commander of an artillery unit. He served on the Camp Hill Borough Council for over 30 years, contributing his expertise to many projects, particularly the parks and recreation committee. He was also a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill.
When Gene wasn't designing bridges or volunteering his time and expertise, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughters and grandchildren at the beach in Ocean Village in Bethany Beach, Delaware.
Surviving is his loving wife, Elizabeth (Betty Lou) Waldner, daughter Anne Waldner, daughter Beth Crollard and husband Matt Crollard, daughter Cindy McFarland and husband Jack McFarland, daughter Jeanne Torstenson, granddaughter Alexis Torstenson, and grandson Zachary Torstenson.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother Frederick Waldner.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Trinity Lutheran Church Camp Hill, 2000 Chestnut St, Camp Hill, PA 17011, with Pastor John Brock officiating. A visitation will be held for one hour prior until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Camp Hill or PSPE

Oue thoughts and prayers to the family of Noble Waldner. He was a member of Zembo Shrine since December 1974. Please know he will be remembered in a memorial prayer at the next Stated Meeting of Zembo Shrine.

To the family of Mr.Waldner,what a wonderful "full" life Harold shared with his large loving family...he not only left an impression on his wife,children and grandkids but also on America! His countless projects helped carve out a niche on America and the lives of tens of thousands daily! What a great life he certainly championed through his hard work and legacy of love! May God hold him in his hand and give comfort to his wonderful family that was Harold's pride and joy in life! God Bless you all and rest easy knowing he's with God and watching over all of you!
