OBITUARY
Harry Edwin Benton, 78, of
Malvern, IA, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Harry was born on June 27, 1947 in Omaha, the son of Robert Edwin and Dorothy Nadene (Hallam) Benton. He spent his childhood on a farm southeast of Tabor, IA, attended Tabor Grade School and graduated from the Fremont-Mills High School with the class of 1966. He attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, MO for two years. Harry served in the United States Army for two years, returning to live in
Malvern, IA where he farmed and raised cattle and hogs.
Harry married Barbara Earith on January 19, 1976. His family grew to include Barb's daughter Kimberly. They were blessed with a son Robert Wayne Benton in 1980. The couple eventually divorced.
Harry was an active member of the Mills County community. In addition to serving with the Malvern Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years, he was an E.M.T.D. on the Malvern Rescue, a volunteer reserve deputy for the Mills County Sheriff's Department, and a board member of the Fairview Hills Golf Course. Harry was active with the Sidney Rodeo for many decades, performing as a clown, riding broncos and bulls, and assisting in the rodeo hospital. Harry's adventurous spirit led him to become a licensed pilot, an experienced scuba diver, and a long-haul trucker. In his later years, he enjoyed wood carving, reading, golfing with friends, and spoiling his grandchildren.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother.
Harry is survived by his son Robert Benton and wife Caitlin of Omaha; two grandchildren, Harry and Ada; brother Robert Benton and wife Janet of Tabor; other relatives; and several close friends.
