Harry H. Jung, Jr. passed away at his home Saturday, September 9, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cook Field, Texas, the oil field community outside of Albany, Texas, on August 4, 1928, to Nettie Mae and Harry Jung.

Jung graduated from Albany High School where he was the quarterback of the football team. In the summers, he hitchhiked to oil fields throughout Texas to earn money for his education. Following high school, he attended NTAC, North Texas Agricultural College where he was a member of the ROTC. Later, he transferred to the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. At UT he met his soulmate and future wife, Virginia “Penny” McNeill in 1949.

After graduation, they were married in Spur in 1951, prior to Jung being sent to Korea where he served in the Army as 1st Lieutenant with the 1st Cavalry Division. Following Korea, he was transferred to Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan where his wife Penny joined him and their first child was born.

The Jungs returned to Austin where Harry attended the University of Texas School of Law and their second child was born. After law school, the Jungs moved to Crosbyton, Texas for 12 years where he was Crosby County Attorney. In addition to his law office, he opened a title company. Their third child was born in Crosbyton.

In 1968, the Jungs moved to Lubbock where they were members of The First Methodist Church. Jung was an avid golfer and a devoted Texas Longhorn fan. Penny and Harry celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2011 the same year that Penny passed away.

He is survived by a sister Mrs. James Hawk of Ft. Worth; his children Cathy Jung and Kevin Jung of Lubbock and Dr. Harry Jung III of Georgetown; six grandchildren: Emily Ayers, Natalie Thigpen, Sally deFries, Lily Boettcher of Austin; Austin Jung of Houston; and Harry Jung, IV of Austin; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
