Harry Settelmyer, age 83, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, in Peoria, IL.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, to Ken and Margaret Settelmyer, Harry was the eldest of six siblings.
He was a standout basketball player and proud alum of St. Leo High School in Chicago. He graduated from the University of Illinois and received an M.B.A. from DePaul University, laying the foundation for a successful career as a financial advisor.
Harry was an enthusiastic and beloved member of the Cursillo community and St. Vincent De Paul Parish. He also belonged to the Rotary Club of Peoria where he rarely missed a weekly lunch. Known for his vibrant personality and genuine love for people, Harry cultivated countless friendships throughout his life. His outgoing nature and pension for giving fun nicknames, brightened the days of everyone he encountered.
Harry enjoyed playing tennis with his friends at Willow Knolls. In his later years, he found joy in exercising and socializing at the YMCA, where he was known to prioritize the latter. He also found immense joy in the companionship of his dogs, Charlie, Abby, and Chelsea, and his granddog, Daisy, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Harry loved spending time on his deck, soaking in the beauty of the day, a simple pleasure he cherished. He was an avid and faithful Chicago and Illini sports fan and was blessed to see his teams win 6 NBA titles, 1 Super Bowl, and most unlikely, 1 World Series.
Harry was a devoted husband to Gail, with whom he shared many cherished years, the last few being the some of the hardest, but some of the best. Together, they raised two sons, Scott (Michele) and David (Jen). He was a proud and involved grandfather to eight grandchildren, creating lasting memories with his playful and loving spirit. He was the oldest of his siblings, Marianne, the late Paul, Louise, Brant, and Susan, and cherished his role as their elder brother.
Throughout his life, Harry maintained an unwavering positive outlook, a trait that remained with him until his final days. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 7, 2025 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with a half hour prior visitation from 10 AM – 10:30 AM. Fr. Stephen Willard will officiate. Cremation Rites will be accorded and private burial of ashes will be at a later date.
Memorials in Harry's name, may be made to the Children's Home Association of Illinois or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society through St. Vincent Church.

I worked with Harry for many years at all the firms we were before becoming Morgan Stanley. I'll always remember his huge personality and sense of humor. We used to tease him about the huge car he drove, we called it 'The Hindenburg".
I'm so sorry for your loss.
