Harry Albert Wesche passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024.

Harry was born in Salt Lake City Utah in the early hours of June 3rd 1937 to German immigrants Walter Wesche and Hedwig Behrendt. He grew up during a world war with a dad serving in the South Pacific while his mom and grandparents worked on the home front. His grandparents Albert and Bertha Behrendt had a substantial influence in his life. He loved to play the trumpet and drums. He was an Eagle scout and honor guard at the viewing of President George A. Smith. He graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City where he was involved in ROTC and the band. He served in post war Germany as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Harry had an extensive military career initially as a corpsman then as a nurse in the Air Force. He served in two conflicts Korea (121st MASH hospital) and Vietnam (air evacuation). He distinguished himself in many ways. He was one of the first to graduate with a residency in Aerospace Medicine where he worked as a nurse for the first space shuttle the “Enterprise.” He was the recipient of two meritorious service medals for his work as an Environmental Health nurse. He retired as a Major in the Air Force with 28 years of service.

After retirement from the military, he received a graduate degree in public health and worked in Utah’s public health department. His love for nursing was extended as he taught nursing at Salt Lake Community College before retirement a second time. In retirement, Harry and Lana traveled the world and served several LDS service missions.

Most important to Harry was his family. He met Lana Dee Tolman in Hawaii while stationed there. They were married in the Idaho Falls temple on August 18, 1961. Lana was always the center of his life and happiness. He was an amazing Dad who instilled many important values to his five boys. He was active in the scouts as a cubmaster and scoutmaster which was an avenue to many adventures with his sons. Much of his vacation time was spent backpacking or in the family motorhome traveling for weeks at a time.

It was evident to all who knew Harry that he had a strong testimony of the Savior and His gospel. He loved to serve and had many callings in the church.

Harry was proceeded in death by his wife and eternal companion, Lana who he dearly missed, a daughter-in-law Jackie and his parents. He is survived by five sons; Scott (Tresa), Todd (Janalee), Rick (Jessica), Mike (Celeste) and Lance (Shantel) and 41 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and his sister Patsy (Dennis) Swallow.
