Hazel May Barcus, of Chelmsford, MA, passed away on June 19th. Hazel was born in Fort Hancock, N.J., on September 23, 1929, a daughter of Ernest L and Catherine (Robertson) Hulse. She is preceded in death by her brother, Daniel, her husband of 52 years, Luther C Barcus and her daughter, Cathie L Barcus.
Hazel graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1945 and received her Associate's Degree from Vermont Junior College in Montpelier, VT. She worked as a secretary until she got married.
Hazel married Luther, a handsome Air Force Lieutenant, in 1950. She soon became a full-time mother who loved taking care of her home, husband and five children. She enjoyed an active life. She especially loved to swim which she learned from her father who was in the coast guard. She grew up along the N.J.shore and spent many days swimming at the beach and walking the board walk. She taught all her children how to swim and enjoyed many trips to the beaches and pools. As a family they also enjoyed camping trips and hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Hazel is survived by three sons and a daughter-in law: Daniel S and Anne (Cayer) Barcus of Lowell, Edward A and David J Barcus of Chelmsford; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia C and Douglas Chin of Winterville, NC. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Sarah and her husband Christopher Michalik of Windham, NH, Catherine and her husband Paul Kennedy of Lowell, John Chin and his wife Lucy of Taipei, Taiwan, Stephen Chin and his wife Kristin of Appleton WI, Kezia and her husband Trevor Wheat of Raleigh, NC, Sophia and her husband John Lynch and Daniel Chin. She also leaves 14 great grand-children.
