Hazel LaVerne Lazarine passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025. She was born to Dora and Edward Young on March 17, 1930 in the unincorporated community of Martinsville, Nacogdoches County, Texas. She had one brother, Earl and two sisters LaMerle and Freddie. She attended Martinsville Elementary and Nacogdoches High School.

On May 1, 1949 she married Edwin J. Lazarine in Nacogdoches and lived there until both of her sons were born, then moved to Houston, where she raised her two sons and spent the next 71 years where she built a life filled with love, family, friendship, and laughter.

After moving to Houston, Hazel and her family joined St. Michael Catholic Church. After selling their home on Potomac St. in Houston, Hazel and Ed moved to the Katy area and joined Epiphany Catholic Church. Hazel enjoyed sitting outside in the early evenings visiting with neighbors and celebrating family holidays, especially St. Patrick's Day which was also her birthday. A devoted Houston Astros fan, she also loved watching The Voice, American Idol, and the Country Music Awards. Hazel cherished traveling back to East Texas to visit family and friends and was a faithful supporter at all her sons and grandchildren's sporting events.

Known for her thoughtfulness and charm, Hazel also loved being pampered with salon visits, manicures, and pedicures. Hazel kept in close touch with those she knew, often calling just to catch up or share a bit of friendly gossip with her friends and family. A self-proclaimed "worry wart" when it came to her boys, Hazel was endlessly caring and devoted to her family. Hazel will be remembered for her kindness, politeness, and her ability to always see the good in others. She rarely spoke ill of anyone and was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her sons, Randy Lazarine and Kirk Lazarine; grandchildren Matt Lazarine, Brett Lazarine, Coby Lee Nelson, and Callie Rae Zemrau, and great-grandchildren Layla Lazarine, Billy Lazarine, Ronnie Jo Nelson, Margaux Jean Nelson, and Riley Rae Zemrau. Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin J. Lazarine, her parents, Dora and Edward Young, sisters LaMerle Dupree and Freddie Mader, brother Earl Young and niece Diane Dupree DeLaney.

Memorial donations may be made in Hazel's honor to Catholic Charities Mamie George Community Center, P.O. Box 1743, Richmond, Texas 77406-0044
