Helen Pearl Davis, 85, a very loving and sweet woman known for her kind, selfless, and humorous personality, entered the arms of Jesus at 1:51 pm on August 28, 2024.
Helen was born July 8, 1939, in Muncie, the daughter of Lemuel and Cora (Cameron) Cooper. Helen lived a life of fun and was admired by her friends and family for her capacity to always bring joy to those around her.
Helen attended Muncie Central High School. She later attended Ball State University where she studied Anthropology. Helen held various jobs throughout her professional life, but was most passionate about her work in the world-famous Allen's Herschell Carnival, and Bob Evans Restaurant from where she retired.
Helen married her soulmate, Donald Walter "Donnie" Davis, on April 5, 1964. Donnie and Helen lived a wonderful life together. Their most proud moments as husband and wife were welcoming their three daughters into the world: Sharee, Kalli, and Holly. Donnie and Helen loved to travel with their most special trips being to San Francisco, a cruise, and a trip to Colorado with two of their grandsons. Donnie passed away in 2006 and the family is confident Helen and Donnie are dancing together in Heaven.
Helen was a beloved member of Albany Christian Church. Her love for Jesus was clearly evident as she loved to read the Bible and share the gospel with others at Albany Health and Rehab. Her family recalls her eyes as they lit up when she spoke about Jesus in her final years. Helen was an Elvis Presley superfan and was always delighted to sing and dance when she heard his songs. Helen's hobbies included being an avid reader of Stephen King books, watching crime shows, tending to her plants, and walking. Helen enjoyed cooking and was known all too well to add way too much garlic to any meal. Helen adored animals, especially cats. She was devoted to her cat, Patsy, who was her special furry companion.
Helen was especially known as a wonderful and fun-loving grandmother. She was thrilled to participate in anything her grandchildren wanted her to. To say her grandchildren were spoiled by her would be an understatement. Her grandchildren look up to her as a strong woman who always knew how to make the best of every situation.
When family and friends think about Helen, they think of her laugh. Though she could be very spunky and sassy, she was almost always laughing, and she had the best laugh in the world. To think of her as she's laughing in Heaven is a special gift to all.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Walter "Donnie" Davis; siblings, Ellen Merl Campbell (Hubert), Lemuel William Cooper, Jr. (Junie), Carolyn Ann Morris (John), John Defoe Cooper (Pamela), Samuel Woodrow Cooper (Shelba), and Daniel Joseph Cooper.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughters, Sharee Davis, Kalli Bicknell (Hubert "Butch"), and Holly Baughman; step daughter, Donna Waller (Marc Wright); brother, Ronald Lemuel Cooper (Julie); grandchildren, Chelsee Journay (Justin), Brennen Dargo, Cora Gray (Jacob), Kevin Koons (Rachel), Dustin Koons (April), Brittany Stevens, Dayne Baughman, Kaylee Baughman (Sergio), and Raven Baughman (Max); nine great grandchildren; and special aunts, Aunt Lois Goodman and Aunt Mildred Curtis.
Helen's family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff and residents of Albany Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Heart to Heart Hospice, who cared so intently and compassionately for her in her final years of life.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Joe Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery.
Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 12:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 31, 2024.
