Helen M. Hackworth

Helen M. Hackworth, age 79, of Coldwater passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater. She was born on July 5, 1946, in Fremont, Michigan, to Karl and Eulalia (Greer) Miesen.
Helen graduated from Fremont High School in 1964. She was a big fan of Star Trek and western movies. Helen also loved reading, doing puzzle books and spending time with her family. As a child she enjoyed riding horses, playing music and was surprisingly good at playing baseball. She was known for her sharp mind, quick wit, and loving honesty; never afraid to speak her mind with grace and humor.
Helen is survived by four children, David VanderHaag, Jeffrey (Sherry) VanderHaag Brian (Hope) LaRoe and Tina (Chad) Blake; thirteen grandchildren, Devon, Dion, Dominique, Cloyd, Kristal, Misty, Gaige, Katelyn, Julianna, Ethan, Jordyn, Taylor and Chad II; seven great-grandchildren; two siblings, Judith Schooley and Donald (Jan) Miesen; and a sister-in-law Barbara Miesen.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric; three siblings, Ann (Wayne) Matthews, Richard (Noreen) Miesen, and James Miesen; and one brother-in-law, Daniel Schooley.
Funeral services for Helen Hackworth will be held Monday, December 15, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Brandon Dengler officiating. Interment will follow at Sand Lake Valley Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family of Helen Hackworth.
