Helen T. (Mickevicz) Mollo, 99, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Notre Dame Long Term Care with her loving family by her side, one month shy of her 100th birthday.
She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Francis and Nellie (Sawicki) Mickevicz. Helen graduated from Saint Mary's High School in Worcester and was very proud of her Polish ancestry. She and her husband, John A, Mollo, raised their family in Shrewsbury, where they lived for several years, before his passing in 1983. After his passing, she continued to care for the family homestead and was a faithful communicant of Saint Mary's Church. She also created the long-running neighborhood Rosary group with her dear friends.
Helen worked as a site manager for the Age Center in Worcester, and later served as dining room manager at the Student Center at Worcester State College, until her retirement.
In her free time, Helen enjoyed gardening-making everything beautiful with her green thumb. She was an avid reader, and loved traveling and spending time with her family. She was a trendsetter with her fashion choices, really a fashionista before it became popular!
Helen leaves her loving sons, David L. Mollo of South Grafton, and Donrae Hogsett of New York, NY; a cherished granddaughter, Julie Mollo of Brooklyn, NY; daughter-in-law, Lisa Mollo of Grafton; a brother, Edward Mickevicz of Worcester; as well as several dear nieces and their families in California. She was predeceased by her son, John P. "J" Mollo who passed in 2018; two brothers, Francis Michael, and William Mikevicz; and her sister- in- laws Florence Michael, Georgina Mickevicz and Lillian Mikevicz. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Donrae Hogsett of Nebraska in 1947.
Helen was a caring person who was loved by many. Her faith helped her to face many challenges with strength and dignity. She will be truly be missed.
The Mollo family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Notre Dame Long Term Care Center for their compassionate care during her stay there.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Helen's family on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury followed by a funeral Mass celebrating her life at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
