Helen Raught Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barber Memorial Home, Inc. - Johnson City on Nov. 16, 2024.
Helen Raught (Bosket), 89, died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on November 14th, 2024. She is predeceased by her husband, David; son, Thomas; and sister, Joan. Helen is survived by siblings, Loretta and Bill, and six children: Noreen Janick, Susan (Michael) Erat, Steven (Karen) Bosket, Gail (Steve) Hunker, John (Linda) Bosket, and ReBecah Kilbury (Dave Markie); five grandchildren (Ryan, Michael, Rachel, Helen, Amanda), and four great-grandchildren. Helen graced this earth with a radiant smile that bespoke a playful spirit, kindness, and a zest for life. She was a strong woman of faith who embodied compassion, patience, and demonstrated a life of stewardship to her church, family, and community. She was a beacon of love, hope, comfort and was a blessing to all. Born in Boston, MA in 1935, she moved to Windsor, NY in 1950 where she made her home and raised her family. She attended college later in life and obtained an Associate's Degree while working in hospital and office settings. Helen had a heart for service and helped shut-ins and older persons throughout her life. She volunteered at the Windsor Senior Center for over 20 years and was a member of several community groups and clubs as well as remaining active in her church. Helen was a gardening enthusiast. She was also a consummate bookworm and lover of music. Over a span of 60 years, she served as pianist for two churches and shared her talent by playing favorite hymns for local senior centers and nursing homes. Helen was a creative person who enjoyed quilting, painting, and writing. She was known for bringing joy to others through her handwritten correspondence. Helen possessed a terrific curiosity about the world around her and loved learning new things through reading, taking classes, and connecting with people. She had a sense of adventure, enjoyed traveling and making memories with her family and friends. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the people who uplifted Helen in her final months through fellowship, homemade meals and sharing of fresh produce, impromptu porch and bedside music jam sessions, and prayer. A private memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a future date. Donations may be made in Helen's name to the Lighthouse Community Church, Windsor, NY.
