Helga Scinto

Helga Scinto, aged 85, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Born in Breslau, Germany, Helga was the beloved daughter of the late Theodor and Emma (Franke) Niebelschutz. She was also predeceased by her sister, Lydia. At the age of six, Helga's family relocated to Frankfurt on the Main River in Western Germany to escape the Russian occupation. Her life was often marked by resilience.
Helga's journey to the United States began when she met her first husband, Askolds (Alex) Goncarovs, in Friedberg, Germany, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. She immigrated to the United States in 1957 and married Alex in 1958 in Seneca Falls, New York. The couple initially resided in Rochester, New York, before moving to Milford, Connecticut, in 1963. Together, they raised two daughters: Charlotte 'Sandy' Goncarovs of Houston, Texas, and Yvette (& Dennis) Rubery of Pittsford, New York.
After her marriage to Alex, Helga found love again with Anthony Scinto, with whom she had a daughter, Sabrina Scinto of New Haven, Connecticut.
Helga had a passion for both gardening and cooking. She was actively involved in The Garden Club while residing in Milford. She believed in "giving back to mother earth" and finding peace in nature. She enjoyed preparing German meals and sharing them with friends and neighbors. She had a profound love for animals, especially cats, which brought her immense joy throughout her life. Her nurturing spirit and love for nature were evident in the beautiful gardens she tended and the animals she cared for.
She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through her children and the many lives she touched. A small service will be held at her home at a later date.
