On Thursday, August 14, 2025, Helmut "Joe" Mueller, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 88.

Born and raised in Germany during a time of profound upheaval and economic hardship, Joe emigrated to the United States as soon as he could and enlisted in the Air Force, proudly serving for over 21 years. His assignments took him to many places across the US and overseas. It was in Mildenhall, England, that he met and married his wife, Seija. Together, they shared 64 years of life's joys and challenges, built on friendship, love, and mutual respect. Joe and Seija raised three children: Mark, Henry (d. 1995), and Anne. Their family grew to include six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Beyond his military service, Joe worked as a computer programmer for various organizations in Washington, DC, Lexington Park, MD, and Dahlgren, VA. During this time, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and generously volunteered with the Optimist Club. Even in retirement, his service continued, helping others, especially by providing rides to appointments for those in need.

He was always supportive, readily sharing his knowledge and wisdom. A lifelong learner who never met a stranger, Joe traveled extensively and always had a good story or funny joke to share. If you could sum up his life in one sentence, it would be: He always did his best.

All services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Veterans Association of America, Inc., or the Hospice Foundation of America.
