Herbert “Herb” Zane Anderson, age 93, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 04, 2023 in El Paso, Texas. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle and will be dearly missed. Herb is preceded in death by his parents; Herbert Anderson and Gladys Lefan. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 70 years; Frances Maxine Head Anderson; his beloved daughters Deborah Kay Ellis (Wayne) and Laura Frances Coulter (Mark); his siblings Viarinne Jamison and Gaylon Anderson; his grandchildren Fallon Coulter Jones, Cameron Ellis (Lillian), Tyler Coulter (Lindsay), Colby Ellis, Corbin Ellis, Tanner Coulter, and Summer Coulter; his great-grandchildren Silas Jones, Jude Jones, Felicity Jones, Kett Coulter, Charlie Coulter, and Tripp Coulter; his sisters-in-law Ellen Head Prior and Virginia Head; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many extended friends and family to cherish and honor his memory.
He was born and raised in Greenville, Texas but then, as a teenager, moved to Dallas and attended North Dallas High School. Herb’s education continued as he then attended Arlington State College.
Herb was an exemplary Scout Executive for the Boys Scouts of America; his devotion and leadership leave behind an unforgettable legacy.
He loved outdoor activities, especially going camping, boating and fishing with family and friends. He was also artistically talented in painting, intricate wood carving, and especially vocally. Herb was a church music leader in his early years, sang with barbershop quartets, and loved singing in general.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Homes-West. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00pm at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery; 4900 McNutt Rd., Santa Teresa, New Mexico 88008.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-West, 480 N. Resler Dr.
