Herbert Kimmich

Herbert Ludwig Kimmich, 89, of Morristown, NJ passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. Born in Manhattan, New York City, he grew up in Astoria, Queens, as well as various towns in northern New Jersey, and attended high school in Lodi, NJ. He received his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and was a Professional Engineer for the States of NJ and NY. He joined Foster Wheeler Corporation as a Project Technologist in 1957. Over his 42-year career with Foster Wheeler he traveled the world, living in Bataan, Philippines, London, England, Houston, TX, Melbourne, Australia and Chatham, NJ before moving to Morristown in 1972. His roles at Foster Wheeler progressed from Field Engineer up to Vice President, General Manager and President (FW Spec) ending with VP of Project Development/Commercial Development. Highlights of his business travels included visiting 6 continents with extended trips to Turkey, Southeast Asia, China, Russia, Africa and South America. He was married to his Hildegard for 46 years until her passing in 2010. He and Hildegard were active members of the Morristown United Methodist Church and more recently the Presbyterian Church of Basking Ridge, where he was formerly an Elder. He was actively involved in a twelve-step community. He enjoyed extensive travels around the world with family. He considered the Adirondacks, especially Blue Mountain Lake, his second home. Additionally, there were many visits to family and friends in Germany. Herbert was a passionate reader, deeply knowledgeable of history and particularly fond of mysteries. He was an active alumnus of the Stevens Institute of Technology. He was a fan of classical music, jazz and opera. In his younger years he enjoyed squash, tennis, photography, hiking and boating. He is survived by his loving daughters, Christina I. K. Hawkes (Richard) of Mendham, NJ, Barbara F. M. Kimmich of Houston, TX and Katrina H. Zoski (Chris) of New York City, and granddaughters Emma, Isabelle, and Sophie Hawkes.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Basking Ridge, 1 E. Oak St, Basking Ridge on Saturday February 8th at 11:00 am. Internment will follow at Fair Mount Cemetery, Chatham, NJ. The visitation will be held at Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham on Friday February 7th at 5-7 pm.
