Herman Joseph Becker Jr.

A Life Well Lived

Herman Joseph Becker Jr., age 72, of Westwego, LA, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, in the loving arms of his wife.

Herman was born December 31, 1952, in New Orleans, LA, and grew up in Belle Chasse, LA. He dedicated his life to service, both in the military and in his community. In 1969, he proudly joined the United States Air Force, where he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. As a C-130 loadmaster, his career took him across the world, including a tour in Vietnam.

After his distinguished military service, Herman continued serving his community as an electrician and instrumentation technician with SeCo and later Chevron Oronite Oak Point Plant. His dedication and integrity left a lasting impression on everyone he worked alongside.

In 2009, Herman married the love of his life in Gatlinburg, TN. Their years together were filled with laughter, adventure, and unconditional love. He was especially proud of his wife, his children, and his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.

Herman found great happiness riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Since 2005, he had been a proud member of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, most recently serving as Chaplain of the LA XII Chapter. He also loved traveling, cooking his famous gumbo, spending time at the camp, attending his grandchildren's activities, and sharing quality time with his best friend-his wife.

Herman is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Karin Pedersen Becker; his children, Monique Becker, Keith Brock (Becky), and Kandace Mercer (Blair); and his grandchildren, Ryan, Beaux, Khloe, Piper, Brock, Colt, and Peyton. He is also survived by his brothers, Alan Becker and Gary Becker (Therese). He was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa Putz Becker and Herman Joseph Becker Sr., and his sister, Patricia Becker.

His legacy of service, love, and dedication will forever be cherished by his family and friends.

A funeral service to honor Herman's life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr, Metairie, LA 70001. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a service starting at 12:00 p.m., followed by burial.

Gone Riding

Don't cry for me, I still ride free, with the wind upon my face, leather in black, the sun on my back, a priceless gift of God's grace.

I'll never grow old, on these streets of gold, chasing a majestic sunset, and I still recall, how I love you all, sweet memories I won't forget.

And when your road ends, we'll meet again, inside the Pearly Gates,

and we'll laugh awhile and go ride for miles, but for now, Heaven can wait.

When you do get here, don't shed one tear, and think that I'm in hiding, just search Heaven's shore, where engines roar, and you'll find that l'ue gone riding.
