Howard Edwin Rupard, 85, of Lexington, Kentucky, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 23, 2025. Born on April 25, 1939, to Grover and Edna Mae (Littral) Rupard, Howard was a dedicated and selfless man whose life touched many.
Howard was a proud graduate of Nicholasville High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves, proudly serving his country for eight years. His commitment to service extended to his community when he joined the Lexington Police Department on July 1, 1960. Howard devoted nearly 33 years to law enforcement before retiring from the LFUCG Police Department in January 1993. His passion for service continued as he spent an additional 25 years as Director of Park Patrol with division of Parks and Rec until 2018.
He was the loving and faithful husband to Betty Lou (Cayse) Rupard for 66 wonderful years. Together, they raised three children: Debbie (Phillip) Buffin, Becky (the late Michael) Grogg, and Michael (Natalie) Rupard. Howard was a proud and devoted "Papaw" to six grandchildren: Christopher (Jen) Rupard, Candice (Danny) Eades, Ashley (Kevin) Madison, Sterling (Jessica) Grogg, Meghan Rupard, and Hunter (Sara) Rupard. His legacy lives on through his 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Howard is also survived by one special niece, Sandy (Bunie) Bruner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Edna Mae Rupard, his sister Marjorie (Joel) Cooper, his father and mother-in-law, Herbert and Agnes Cayse, and his son-in-law, Michael Grogg.
A dedicated member of East Hickman Baptist Church for 85 years, Howard served as a deacon and lived his faith through his actions. His servant heart and Godly legacy will continue to impact those who knew him, particularly his family and community.
A celebration of Howard's life will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at East Hickman Baptist Church, 6418 Tates Creek Road, Lexington, Kentucky. Family and friends are invited to visit from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the celebration of life service to follow at 6:00 p.m.
