Howard P. Yockers, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on July 25, 2025, in Lawrence, Kansas. He was born on August 13, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, to Herbert and Sylvia (Pastroski) Yockers. Howard's journey through life was marked by his dedication to family, a strong work ethic, and his many passions.
A proud graduate of Highland Park High School, Class of 1968, Howard began his career at the young age of 16 at Walgreens. His professional path later led him to become a talented chef, with notable positions at Furr's Cafe and McDonald's, where he worked for an impressive 23 years.
Cooking was not just a job for Howard; it was a true passion. He was known for his culinary skills and took great joy in preparing delicious meals, delighting family and friends with his ability to cook just about anything. Beyond the kitchen, Howard was an avid fan of KU basketball and enjoyed spending his leisure time putting together puzzles, watching television, and listening to soothing piano music.
Surviving Howard are his loving daughter, Jennifer (Levi) Bixel, and cherished grandson, Brayden Bixel. He is also survived by his brother, Dennis Yockers. Howard was preceded in death by his dear wife, Sharon, whom he married on January 23, 1971, in Topeka, Kansas. She passed away on December 7, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Mike Yockers.
Howard's memory will be honored with visitation and a celebration of life on August 2, 2025, at Parker-Price & Davidson in Topeka, Kansas. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place at West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
His life was marked by love, laughter, and unforgettable memories, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
