On September 5, 2021, Hugh "Maxey" Dodson, loving husband and father of two daughters, passed away at the age of 80.

Maxey was born on June 7, 1941, in Amarillo, TX to Herbert William Dodson Sr. and Eva Jane Maxey Dodson. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1959. In his early years, Maxey was known for being the life of the party. Following graduation, he rock-n-rolled his way through five colleges before serving in the United States Army Reserve. On August 19, 1967, he married Becky Garner Dodson. Together, they raised two daughters, Savannah Jane (Banna) Duncan and Carey Garner Dodson. Maxey had a natural skill of cultivating relationships which was the cornerstone to the success in his career at PIA Insurance. He was on the Board of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and served as a Director of the Lone Star Ballet, the President of Tealwood Lakes Homeowners Association Board, and the Randall County Appraisal Review Board.

Daddy Max, as his family called him, had a genuine zest for life. Motorcycles, cars, fly fishing, gardening, gadgets, home repair projects, family vacations, family pets, golf, dancing, and calling his friends and family on the phone name a few of the experiences that brought him joy, each in different chapters of his life. You've never seen a man do the rubber legs quite like Maxey, or a smile that lit up any room he was in. In addition to his dance moves and his smile, he will be remembered for his humor, his laughter, and his warm and loving heart.

A graveside service will be held for close family and friends at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo with Rev. Jeff Messer officiating. There will be a virtual service offered for those who would like to view the service from their home. Please use this link to live stream the service: https://www.facebook.com/BoxwellBrothersFuneralDirectors/live/. With the current increase in Covid cases, the family requests that those who are unvaccinated attend the virtual offering.

Maxey was preceded in death by his father, Herb Sr., and his mother, Eva Jane.

He is survived by his wife Becky; his two children, Banna (Russ) of Amarillo, and Carey of Santa Fe; his brothers, Don (Kathy) of Fort Worth, and Herb Jr. (Lynn) of Dallas; his grandchildren, Maxey, Ellie, and Garner of Amarillo; his sister-in-law, Janie (Eddie) of Amarillo; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be made to Heal the City or High Plains Food Bank.
