Obituary of Hugh Joseph McGavern, Jr.
Hugh J. McGavern Jr., 71 of Melbourne, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side.
Hugh was born July 21, 1950 in Buffalo, New York, to Hugh and Vera (Lippke) McGavern. He graduated from Brockport University, earned a Masters Degree at Canisius College and went on to attain a Charter Life Underwriter (CLU), CHFC professional designation.
Hugh began a lifelong career in the insurance industry with Prudential Insurance in 1975 and rose to become a District Manager and Assistant to the Vice President. He was awarded many individual and team awards including the prestigious Northeast Presidential Citation six times in his 20 year career.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine McGavern, daughter Kerry McGavern, step-son Tim Spanfelner, sister Karen Milla and nephew Mark Milla.
Hugh was an avid history and bible student, he was a member of SHRP, tennis player, scuba-diver and artist. As a young boy and until he graduated college, her formed a rock band/cut a record. Also, he was an active member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and was involved for years in bible studies hosted in his home. He assisted his wife Elaine in the founding and development of Divine Mercy Radio Station (WDMC 920 AM). He will be greatly missed - he was loving, caring, generous, fun and wonderful to be with.
