Grandy, NC – Hunter Lane Gray, 31, passed away June 24, 2025. He was born on June 9, 1994, in Newport News and loved living his life in many places, most recently in Grandy, NC. He was a Kitchen Prep at Steamers in Kitty Hawk, NC. He was a graduate of Smithfield High School, and attended Thomas Nelson Community College as well as Regent University. Hunter enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and hiking. He also loved music, whether it was playing the guitar and piano, or listening and dancing to it. He was curious and inquisitive and loved sharing his knowledge with people.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Susan Gale Jones Chaney of Grandy, NC; his father, Kevin Lane Gray (Kristi) of Hampton; two brothers, Grey Miller of Currituck, NC and Jacob Gray of Hampton; his paternal grandfather, Kenneth Gray of Smithfield; many extended family members and friends; and his dog, "Skipper".
He was predeceased by his brother, Christopher Robin Pate; his maternal grandparents, J.R. and Patricia Sue Jones; and his paternal grandmother, Marian Cook Gray.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2025 in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery in Newsoms with Pastor Jim Evans officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service in the funeral home.
