Mother Ida Mae Simpson, 96, of 5450 Larkwood Rd., Columbus, OH, formerly of 676 Hoyt Street Warren, OH, peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 10:00 at her home.
Mother Ida lovingly known as “GRANNY” was born on September 8, 1927 in Belzoni, MS, the 13th of 16 children to the union of Pompie and Annie Wade. She moved to Warren, Ohio in 1953 and was employed at The Warner Hotel as a Kitchen Assistant and a Housekeeper. She was a personal domestic housekeeper for families for many years and was later employed by The Howland School Systems as Lead Night Custodian, from which she retired in 1993.
Mother Ida was raised in a family that honored and served God and she gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She was a faithful member of the Hoyt Street Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Superintendent Nolan Brown. Mother Ida continued her servitude under the leadership of Superintendent Gerald Morgan, where she served on the Mother’s Board, Pastor’s Aid Committee, President of Usher Board and one of the lead cooks in the Kitchen Ministry. She faithfully attended weekly church services including, Noon Day Prayer, Bible Study, Sunday School, and YPWW where she unlocked the doors for all services.
Mother Ida enjoyed jig-saw puzzles, crocheting, cooking, watching old westerns and singing spiritual hymns. Her family was the joy of her life, and nothing made her happier than cooking for them and having them surround her with lots of love and laughter.
She leaves a legacy of keeping God first, loving each other, forgiveness, and often reminded her children to stick together like GLUE.
Mother Ida leaves to cherish her memory: 10 children, James (Rita) Wade of Henderson, NV, Sadie Williams of Columbus, OH, Dorothy (Roland) White of Ocala, FL, Marguerite Jenkins of Columbus, OH, Lionel (Juliette) Simpson of Warren, OH, Dornail Simpson of Columbus, OH, Dennis (Gloria) Simpson of Warren, OH, Joanne Simpson of Columbus, OH, Mary (Lonnie) Pitt of Worthington, OH, and Mildred Theresa (Mark) Johnson of Gilbert, AZ; daughter-in-law, Shirley Simpson; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 19 great great-grandchildren and a host of close family and friends.
Granny was preceded in death by her loving parents; 15 siblings; 2 children, Willie Simpson (son), and Geraldine Haynes (daughter); 2 grandchildren, Clarinda (Poochie) Hawkins and Daniel Simpson; 1 great-grandchild, Jerome Arie Stephens.
