Iluminada Obtera "Luming" Matro

Iluminada "Luming" Obtera Matro, 90, passed away peacefully at her daughter's residence in Virginia Beach, VA on November 30, 2023. She joins her husband, Orlando Matro, Sr., and eldest son, Danilo Matro, in Heaven.
She was born September 15, 1933, in Cavite, Philippines. Luming was married at 17 to Orlando Matro, Sr., and they were blessed with two sons and four daughters. She migrated to the United States in 1981. She worked at several companies, and her latest career was at Forbes Candies, where she worked for 15 years before retiring in 2001.
Luming was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. In her retirement, she loved being around her family, cooking, watching her Filipino soap operas, gardening, sewing, and playing bingo with the family. Known for her radiant smile, she was always welcoming to others, often cooking and offering food to them. She loved to laugh and brought a joyful spirit wherever she went. She loved her grand and great-grandchildren very much and cared for them to the end of her days.
Left to cherish her memory: son Orlando "Rollie" Matro, Jr. (wife Liberty) of Las Vegas, NV; four daughters: Perla Perey (husband Benjamin) of Virginia Beach, VA; Dolly Matro of Tucson, AZ; Susan Malleta (husband Alex) of Batangas, Philippines; and Daisy Bagtas (husband Anthony) of Virginia Beach, VA; ten grandchildren: Daves Matro, Nicole Sheckels, Joy Herrera, Ping Jones, Jonathan Gonzaga II, Stephanie Galinada, Aaron Malleta, Dazzelle Bagtas, Drenzelle Bagtas, and Danyel Bagtas; and eleven great-grandchildren: Zayden, Ianna, and Savayah Matro, Alyana, Ava, and Liam Sheckels, Caroline and Ezekiel Jones, and Eidan, Jasmine, and Mia Gonzaga.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown, Princess Anne Chapel on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 4:30 to 6 PM. A service will be held immediately after at 6 PM, Pastor Michael Rhoad officiating. The family invites those in attendance to a reception following the service.
