Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Irene was the daughter of Edward and Irene (Medzhradsky) Zanoni. She graduated from Ecorse High School in 1947. She attended Wayne University in the School of Nursing at Grace Hospital. She worked out a plan through hard work so she could live at the dormitory and did not need help from the Student Aid Foundation even though she was to receive this help. She received The Grace Hospital School of Nursing Diploma on September 16th, 1951. She passed the Michigan Board of Registration of Nurses on December 4th, 1951. She was employed by the Veterans Administration working with the World War II Veterans on the Psychiatric floor until July 1953. Irene married the love of her life, Glayden V. Fox, on September 2, 1952. Sadly he preceded her in death October 18, 1988. Irene loved to converse with everyone she met. It has been said that she knew no strangers. She also enjoyed overseeing the build of new homes for her family, gardening and making doll houses. Her final past five years she moved from Florida to live in Claudia's Cottage, Wyandotte, where she was loved by the other residents and the staff. She was known to say this was her home and she was happy!
Irene leaves to cherish her memory 2 siblings: Mildred Etchill and Anne Rayburn as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Susan Fox and son Jeffrey Fox.
