Heaven gained a beautiful soul. Irene Roybal, 77 went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family on October 8, 2025. Born on September 26, 1948, to Antonio and Margarita Vigil, Irene was the oldest of six siblings. She was born and raised in Chimayó, New Mexico, where she developed a deep love for her family, faith, and community that guided her throughout her life.
A proud 1966 graduate of Santa Cruz High School, Irene carried love and compassion into everything she did. She was known for her kind heart, gentle nature, and the way she always put others before herself.
Irene was a devoted mother, sister and friend whose home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and love. Her strength, grace, and unwavering faith were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Margarita Vigil, brother-in-law Alfonso Trujillo, daughter-in-law Lisa Roybal, and God daughter Crystal Kayla Roybal.
She is survived by her beloved son, Matthew Roybal, and his wife, Shaylee, of Chimayó; her brothers Celestino “Tino” Vigil of El Llano, Gilbert Vigil, and Manuel (Becky) Vigil, both of Chimayó; and her sisters Selina Trujillo and Gloria Vigil, both of Chimayó. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Christa (Luis) Hernandez, Emmanuel (Alisha) Trujillo, and Leonardo Jimenez. Godchildren, Veronica Martin, Yvette Manzanares, Christa Hernandez, Gabriel Roybal, and Aria Jimenez as well as many extended family members and friends who were blessed by her presence.
A public visitation will begin on October 14, 2025, at 10:30 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory.
