Irene Marie (Maxey) Schollmeyer, age 95, of Chamois, passed away Friday, January 16, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 5, 1930, to William Sullivan Maxey and Louise Willamena (Mebruer) Maxey in Flint, Michigan.
She was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary High School in Frankenstein.
Irene was united in marriage to Frank Joseph Schollmeyer on February 3, 1951, at Our Lady Help of Christians in Frankenstein. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2015.
She was a homemaker while her children were young. Irene and her husband operated the Western Auto Store in Chamois for several years, and she worked at the toy and shoe factories in Hermann, as well as helped in the library at Osage County R-1 and at Subway in Linn. She loved to walk, read, and attend Holy Mass at Most Pure Heart of Mary in Chamois, where she was a devoted parishioner. She was also a member of the Ladies Sodality.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Frank, her parents, William and Louise, father and mother-in-law, John and Anna Schollmeyer, brothers, Aaron (Aileen), Charley (Evelyn), and Jim Maxey, sisters, Augustine Cone and Judy (David) Schmitz, and an infant sister, Geraldine.
She is survived by: four sons, Dave (Glenda), Fred (Diane), Jim, and Robert Schollmeyer, all of Chamois; a brother David (Judy) Maxey of Chamois; a sister, Catherine Brown of St. Martins; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Jared) Collins of Jefferson City, Nick (Crystal) Schollmeyer of Chamois, Jessica (Michael) Bax of Jefferson City, Jon (Kristina) Schollmeyer of Columbia, Aimee (David) Foster of St. Louis, Aubrey (Alex) Paulsmeyer of Chamois, and Andrea (Travis) Haberstroh of St. Louis, and thirteen great-grandchildren Jack, Carly, Hank, Cora, Oliver, Archer, Colten, Daniel, Henry, Ella, Samuel, Francis, and Leo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Chamois. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father David Means as the Celebrant.
Donations are suggested to Friends of Chamois Cemeteries.
