FERGUSON, Mrs. Iris Coleman, 81, of Farmville, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 in Farmville. She was born April 3, 1928 in Prince Edward County. She was a daughter of the late Lloyd Morton and Kate Glenn Coleman. She was a graduate of Farmville State Teachers College (Longwood University). She taught in the Nottoway and Prince Edward County school systems. She was a member of Farmville Baptist Church since 1949, where she taught Sunday School for 50 years and was a circle leader. She was a member of Nora Lancaster Garden Club for over 37 years and then was made an honorary life member. She was also a member of Judith Randolph Longwood Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Howard Ferguson Jr.; daughter, Jackie F. Reid and husband, Bill, of Blackstone; son, Steve Dodridge Ferguson and wife, Jane Bell Ferguson, also of Blackstone; her four grandchildren, Brian Graham and wife, Christina, of Gainesville, Va., Carrie G. Shelton and husband, Brian, of Midlothian, Matthew Ferguson and Megan Ferguson, both of Richmond; six great-grandchildren; her sisters, Janie C. Simpson, Rachel C. Phaup, Alice C. Watson, Tola Katrena Young and Celia Jo Young; and her brothers, Joel W. Coleman and Frank Nat Coleman. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin B., Lloyd G. and Thomas Timothy Coleman. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 4, 2010 11 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church, with a private interment in Westview Cemetery. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 5 to 7, at the Puckett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Farmville Baptist Church or to Patrick Henry Boys Home. Puckett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
