Iris Faison Hugghins, 86, of
Bethalto, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31st 2025 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was the widow of Allison Sullivan Hugghins of
Andalusia, AL.
She was born on November 23, 1939, at her parent's house (also known as "The Switch") in rural Crenshaw County, the daughter of Comer B. Faison and Nell Faison of
Dozier, AL. She graduated from Dozier High School in 1958 and went on to earn her Bachelors and Masters degree in Education from Troy University. She married her husband, Allison, on October 28, 1961, after secretly eloping in Elba, AL. They shared 35-years of marriage together.
Iris retired as a beloved 2nd grade teacher after 30-years from South Highland Elementary School in
Opp, AL. She taught hundreds of young children to read and write and loved doing crafts and reading with them throughout her tenure. After retiring she continued to share heartwarming stories of her time as a teacher for many years with family and friends. Iris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Opp. She loved to travel, paint landscape pictures, and would spend hours a day in a book. She was a great southern cook and loved to peruse her many cookbooks and favorite online cooking sites to find something new to make. Despite everything she made her favorite food remained the chicken and dumplings her mother taught her to make.
Iris was preceded in death by her husband, Allison (1997), and her parents C.B. Faison (1975) and Nell Faison (2013). She is survived by her son Ben (Holly) Hugghins of
Bethalto, IL and daughter Alicia (Ken) Reimer of Apison, TN, four grandchildren, Jacob Reimer of Apison, TN, Andrew Reimer of East Ridge, TN, Mary Allison Hugghins of
Bethalto, IL, Ashley Hugghins of
Bethalto, IL, and a sister, Melinda McCall of Columbus, GA, and many beloved cousins and friends.
Iris' warmth, laughter, and love for others will be cherished always.
A service in her honor will be held on Friday, January 9th at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Foreman Funeral Home in
Andalusia, AL. with Bro. Woody Clark officiating. Interment will be in Cohassett at Long Branch Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., with public viewing beginning at 10 a.m.
Pallbearers will include Stephen Hugghins, Thomas Hugghins, Josh Kyser, Mark Kyser, Jacob Reimer, and Andrew Reimer.
