Isidore "Izzy" Curtis Obituary

Stanley “Izzy” (94) of Lakewood, Colorado lost his battle with pneumonia. His immunity was weakened from hairy cell leukemia he was diagnosed with many years ago. He was affected by worsening dementia. Stan passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025 in hospice care at Swedish Hospital in Englewood, Colorado.

Born Isidore Stanley Curtis in Ashton, Nebraska on January 16, 1931. He was the oldest brother of eight.

We have lost the patriarch of our family. He was a devoted, caring, giving guardian and stable rock of the family. He is survived by his two daughters, Vicki Harper and Pamela Hamilton (Doug), granddaughters Tiffany Baker (Ariel) and Melissa Steiner (Aaron), great-grandchild Callan Baker, sister Lorraine Lunnon, brothers Arnold Curtis and Raymond Curtis (Jackie), and sister Dorothy Russell.

Preceded in death by his father Stanley Curtis, mother Theresa Curtis, sister Lois Ann Curtis, brothers Richard Curtis and Carl Curtis and (Carl’s wife Midge Curtis), and Izzy’s wife and soulmate Beulah Jean Curtis, and son-in-law Perry Harper.

He was a proud Air Force veteran. He was a gunner on the B-29. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1952 because of his hip.

He taught music and was in a band. He played bass, guitar, steel guitar, accordion and ukulele. He and his sister Lorraine played every Saturday morning on KGMC radio in Englewood, CO.

Stan met the love of his life, Jean, at a dance hall in Denver, CO and asked her to dance. They were married December 13, 1958. They had 65 amazing years together. They enjoyed traveling. They went on cruises. They went twice to Maui, Hawaii with their granddaughters. They enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and sometimes meeting up with family there too.

Stan attended college in Indiana and got his degree in Engineering. He was a structured, dependable and determined man always striving for success in everything he did. He worked as an Engineer and Salesman for several hydraulic and pneumatic companies until he developed his own successful company, Curtis Fluid Controls, Inc. in 1979.

His hobbies included gardening, lawn care, investing, fixing things, country music and spending time with family. Being dedicated Denver Bronco fans, he and his brother Ray owned season tickets since the Broncos began. Camping was a favorite recreation of his. There were numerous camping trips and vacations with the whole Curtis clan in Colorado, New Mexico, Mexico and Lake Powell. We all have fond memories of these treasured trips. Many years were dedicated to the cabin he and his brother Arnie built in Jefferson, Colorado where the family spent a lot of time. He contributed years researching his family ancestry and created a family tree book to give to his family.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 beginning at 10:30 am followed by the Funeral Service at 11:30 am, officiated by Winn O. Allison, both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood. A Reception will immediately follow at Horan & McConaty where food and refreshments will be served. Stan will be laid to rest with his wife at 3:00pm Crown Hill Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
