Izella Mae Warner, a beloved figure in the lives of many, passed away on February 18, 2026, at the age of 90 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Born on September 10, 1935, in Towns Country, Georgia, Izella was a woman of remarkable intellect and warmth, whose presence touched the lives of countless individuals throughout her career and personal life.
Izella dedicated her professional life to nurturing the minds of young people serving as a college and school librarian and teacher in both public and private school systems. She is also known for her work at the Fort Belknap Indian reservation for her expansion of their library. With a MasersDegree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina, Durham, and her bachelor’s Degree from Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa North Carolina, Izella’s commitment to education and the importance of reading was evident. She was further recognized by her induction into Phi Alpha Theta for her attainment and scholarship in the field of History.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Izella was a sweet and well liked individual, loved for her sense of humor and her passion for life. She found joy in many things such as a passion for flowers, immersing herself in a good book, gardening, and traveling to both foreign countries, and to the many beautiful places in the States. She was a vibrant spirit who brightened the lives of those around her.
Izella was also an active member of the Eastern Star Organization, contributing her time and energy to a cause that resonated with her deeply. Her life reflects the principles she cherished: service, kindness, and community engagement.
Izella leaves behind her cherished sons, Alfred Gene Warner (Jonne), James Paul Warner (Sueann), and Benjamin Ralph Warner (Diana). Her legacy extends beyond her immediate family, remembered fondly by many who experienced her generous heart and humor. In her life, she often expressed her hopes for her sons, illustrating her enduring belief in their potential to achieve great things.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Ralph Alfred Warner, and by her parents, Paul and Lornea Worley, who nurtured her into the wonderful person she became. Friends and family will remember Izella Mae Warner as not only a dedicated librarian and community member, but as a beloved figure whose laughter and light will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
The funeral service will be held at Families First at 1166 Parsons Ave. Columbus, Ohio, with interment at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 to 1:00 to be followed by the service.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Ohio Eastern Star Home, Mount Vernon, Ohio. A Go Fund Me page has been set up for Izella’s memorial.
