J. Sam "Sammy" Laye III, 75, of West Union, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, surrounded by his sisters.
A native of West Union, SC, Sammy was the son of the late J. Sam, Jr. and Lois Hunnicutt Laye. He was a graduate of Walhalla High School Class of 1970, where he assisted the football team and was a proud member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). Sammy was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved deer hunting, tending his garden, and traveling. His greatest love was the Clemson Tigers. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Sammy is survived by his four loving sisters: Selma Bailey of Greenville, SC, Betty Harris of Conyers, GA, Grace Crow of West Union, SC, and Wanda Harden (Larry) of West Union, SC; nephew: Jason Harden; niece: Kimberly Burrow (Marc); great-nieces and nephews: Melody Hoover, Kodie Harden, Maggie Harden, Grant Harden, Caitlin Burrow (Wesley Reynolds), Cameron Burrow, and Carrigan Burrow; and great-great nieces: Acelyn Harden, and Leilani Reynolds.
In addition to his parents, Sammy is preceded in death by his brother: Roderick Laye.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Davenport Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Davenport Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prisma Health Hospice of the Foothills, ATTN: Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Dr., Seneca, SC 29672, or a charity of one's choice.
