J.P. Roberts, age 83, of Rutherfordton, passed away Friday, April 18, 2025 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
J.P. was born Friday, March 6, 1942 in Gunter, Alabama to the late O.W. Roberts and Opal Mashburn Roberts. He worked as an electrician for Bell & Howell in Huntsville, Alabama as a contractor for NASA. Later he worked as a NASCAR pit crew member for Jimmy Means Racing and then co-owned and operated Greene’s Café with his wife before handing it down to his son. He was a member of Florence Baptist Church and was an avid NASCAR fan and loved to watch Alabama Crimson Tide football. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and playing games with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Sutherland.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of forty-years, Dorlis Roberts; son, Jamie Roberts and wife, Shelly of Forest City; grandchildren, Paige White (Trent), Jordan Radford, Grant Roberts, Max Roberts, Sarah Roberts, Nick Roberts; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Borne and Maxton White.
A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, April 21st at the Harrelson Chapel with Reverend Tim Whiteside and Reverend Tony Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Memorial donations are requested to Florence Baptist Church, Backpack Fund, 201 S. Broadway Street, Forest City, NC 28043 or to the Caroleen Congregational Holiness Church, Food Ministry Fund, PO Box 670, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
