Jack Dunlap Obituary

Jack Dunlap, born April 3, 1943, in California, left this world on July 13, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center at the age of 81. Jack lived a life characterized by kindness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Jack proudly served his country as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable service, he continued his dedication to serving others as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service. His diligent work ethic and commitment to his community were reflected in every path he chose throughout his career.
Outside of his professional life, Jack found joy in the simple pleasures that brought people together. An avid sports enthusiast, he never missed a chance to cheer for the Panthers and Duke University, or to root for any California team. He also found camaraderie and friendly competition in online word games, often challenging his beloved fiancée Evelyn Wilson and numerous friends. Jack had an affection for old black and white movies and found solace in the timeless melodies of classic country music.
Jack's personal interests were a testament to his love of life and the people in it. He adored black coffee and relished the unique taste of black licorice. Those who knew him will fondly remember his generous spirit – always willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His passion for shopping revealed his joyful nature and his thoughtful approach to life.
Animals held a special place in Jack's heart, particularly the two Papillons who shared his life. His love and compassion for animals exemplified the kindness and warmth that made him so beloved by all who knew him.
Jack is survived by his fiancée Evelyn Wilson and his step-son Mark Gorelick, both of whom he cherished deeply. They, along with countless friends and family, will hold his memory close, honoring the legacy of a man who gave so much of himself to others.
Interment will take place at a later date at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, where he will rest among fellow servicemen and women.
