Jack Eugene Lathrop Sr.

RICHMOND, Ind. – Jack Eugene Lathrop, Sr., age 85, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Maple Gardens Nursing Home in Eaton, Ohio, surrounded by family.
Born June 23, 1940, in Kitchel, Indiana, to Russell and Ruby Hicks Lathrop, Jack was a life-long resident of Richmond. He joined the United States Navy right out of high school. Jack retired from Johns Manville as a machine repair journeyman in 2005 and had formerly worked as plant engineer at E. G. Hill. He enjoyed hunting and riding motorcycles in his younger years, fishing, old cars, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Lathrop, to whom he was married April 16, 1968; children, Jack Lathrop, Jr. and Nikki (Shane Griffin) Cook; grandchildren, Jack Lathrop III, Cody Lathrop, Carson Lathrop, Katie Cook, and Samuel Willett; former daughter-in-law, Kristin Lathrop; former son-in-law, Dustin Cook; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Hicks Lathrop Guerant; father, Russell Lathrop; siblings, Leroy Lathrop and Rebecca Lathrop; and nephew, Mark Lathrop.
Visitation for Jack Eugene Lathrop, Sr. will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio.
Jack's family would like to thank all the nurses and aides at Brickyard Healthcare in Richmond and at Maple Gardens in Eaton for the wonderful way they took care of him.
